The Archives of Arrow Quivershaft The Apollo 13 mission suffered a catastrophic failure of the oxygen tanks on board the service module, scrubbing any chance of a Lunar landing, and leaving the crew with limited air and electrical power, while almost 200,000 miles from home. Thus starting off the most fiendishly complicated rescue mission in history. The entire world watched and waited to see what could be done; four days later the mission concluded with Lovell, Swigert, and Haise returning safely to Earth, in a mission that was later deemed a "successful failure." The Soviet navy even voluntarily ceased communicating on all radio bands associated with NASA in order to avoid causing trouble, transcending Cold War hostilities out of concern for the men on board. I don't have anything particularly enlightening to say about this that you can't find elsewhere, but I've always respected those who go into space on these missions. So I hope you enjoyed this little historical tidbit. :) Current mood: I'm away at Midwest Furfest this weekend, so while my computer will remain on, responses will be few and far in between. For those of you coming: Hope to see you there! For those of you not coming: Talk with you when I get back, wish you were coming! Current mood: As I mentioned in my prior post, I have a vacation upcoming. I'm going up to visit my close friend, JayEnfield, in Canada. The Alberta province, specifically; we'll be moving around. I'll leave on June 7th, and I will be, for the most part, out of contact from then until all the way to the other side of Anthrocon on July 7th. That's right, I'm gone for a full month. This'll be the longest I'll ever have taken, actually. And it's also going to likely be the most fun, because it will be the first vacation I take, by myself, and no parents will be involved in limiting me, either my own, or my hosts. Just me and Jay and our friends. :> So here's hoping I have a great time, and here's to letting you all know where I'll be and that if you have something to say to me, anything not said by June 7th will need to wait a month. ;> Current mood: For many reasons. Bullet (point) time!
Current mood: RIP, Dave Arneson. Thanks for all the great memories from before, and those yet to come. Current mood: Most of you are probably aware I've done a paper route for a long time. ( Here's the new news about the route. ) Current mood: I was gonna try and think of some way to put this out in a somewhat more witty way, but I decided this is more in line with my actual feelings. I was recently offered and have accepted the chance to be the Head of the Fandom Track Programming at Anthrocon 2009. :D Not sure of anything else to say, just feel this is really cool. :) Current mood: Youinked from ( It's long, and I've been asked to always place political stuff behind cuts, which I can respect. ) Current mood: Christmas is a time to be thankful for things, and sometimes we forget how fortunate we are. I myself have many things to be thankful for, so I'm going to list them here. ( What I'm thankful for. ) Current mood: For those interested: My panel is 12-1PM on Sunday in room Willow B. The MFF08 Avians Luncheon will be at 2PM on Saturday; anyone interested should meet in the hotel lobby at that time. Also, if anyone wants Jelly Belly beans, I'm bringing Belly Flops again; I currently have 4-5 bags unspoken for. Current mood: |
